something weird about “it’s up for interpretation” and “collaborative storytelling” but then as soon as people are like ooo the spanish dub could make this mean something else they explicitly log on and say “that is not what you are supposed to be interpreting :) you are wrong :) we didn’t say that :) dean didn’t say i love you to cas :) you can think about him saying it but don’t for one second think that we actually intended for him to say that :)”
before i go back to only caring about the secret good supernatural that lives inside my head i want to give a shoutout to all rogue translators who risk their job security for internet clout who can also decide to change episode titles back to their original names and who are somehow responsible for eleven missing shots, scenes that are so badly edited that someone falls in the wrong direction, actors who shoot scenes with other actors that are then missing from the episode, contracting an actor for 15 episodes then only having him appear in 13.5 episodes, and jared padaleckis party city wig. i owe you the best entertainment of my life
my thing is we’re having two different conversations. or at least the same conversation at two different points in time.
if we were talking about the confession on november 5, we would be (and did) gushing about it. it is beautiful and poetic and still makes me cry so hard i can’t see. at that point, we were all relishing the moment. cas finally had the chance to say i love you and it was the most gorgeous declaration of love. he weaponized his own happiness to save the world. yes, it was always bury your gays, but on nov 5, there was still a chance to subvert that. of course cas was coming back next week, or at least for the finale. of course dean would get a chance to respond and speak his own truth in response. narratively, nothing else made sense.
but now it’s november 26. we (kind of) know that cas was resurrected (offscreen, ambiguously onscreen by bobby, and by misha and meg fitz). we know that dean neverspoke about it again, not even to tell sam and jack that it happened, let alone had a chance to reciprocate. (yes, he was grieving in 15x19, but again. it’s ambiguous.) narratively, it did not make sense. and there are no chances left to fix it. (or so we thought. enter the dub.)
it’s frustrating because clearly misha (at least originally) interpreted our outrage as not liking his work, work that is incredibly meaningful to him. and that simply isn’t the conversation we’re trying to have, especially because that work is incredibly meaningful to us too.
we’re trying to talk about silencing queer voices and stories and how that is harmful, especially when the message in the queer story we’re talking about is literally “happiness is in saying it out loud.” we’re trying to talk about how even a meaningful death like cas’s is still bury your gays. we’re trying to talk about how we were actively baited to boost viewing numbers (having the confession at all, no goodbye/thank you post(s) on the day by or about misha, literal actual promo from the day of the finale with cas in it, etc.).
we’re trying to understand what happened, because it doesn’t make sense.
look i dont care about celebrities & that includes the prettyboy who plays gayangel castiel but i really am curious. is misha collins just like, the most vocal lgbt ally on the planet? or is there something he’d like to share w the class.
i’m 80% sure that his wife said they had threesomes with guys together
in a truly unexpected turn of events, american actor jensen ackles leaks the secret bbc sherlock special that he has had saved on his phone for the past few years
this seems as good a time as any to remind ourselves that this story does not live and die by the mouth of the author/actor/etc. deancas happened because of us, we grew that, we shaped that. its OUR story and literally has been for years. thats not to say we shouldnt be pissed and make ourselves heard, but frankly? we get to choose what we take from this show and how we consider it regardless of whatever anyone says about it. once its out there it belongs to us, not to any actor or network official. parasocial relationships are out, absolutely claiming the narrative for ourselves is in, as always
misha’s video like “i learned my lesson while i was away, kids. i serve the cw, i don’t serve destiel, and i certainly don’t serve you” while a trail of blood slowly trickles out of one tear duct
no amount of backtracking, cover up, diversion, deflection, or anything else that someone may do or say from this point forward is going to change that the canonical airing of the episode 15x18 had Dean tell Cas he loved him back. it happened, it’s canon, it’s ours. love and light to you all
If something airs on an official episode, it is part of the canon.
That is what canon MEANS.
Even if they didnt intend it to air like that, thats just their mistake then.
But it doesn’t change the fact that it made it into part of the offical canon.
